MINI Mini Concept Coming to Geneva

BMW's chief executives have already expressed their intentions to expand the MINI lineup in the near future, emphasizing that some new crossovers are very likely to enter production in one or two years. And although they pretty much denied rumors that MINI could launch a smaller vehicle as well, it seems like the British brand will bring at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show in March a modern incarnation of the original 1959 Mini.

A report rolled out today by Carscoop suggests that MINI will use the Geneva concept to preview some of the features likely to be seen on future models. It will measure around 3.4 meters (133.8 inches) in length and will boast a 3+1 seat configuration, being specifically designed to mix original Mini dimensions with modern technologies and features.

In a statement rolled out last week, MINI USA boss Jim McDowell hinted that the company will most likely stick to the current dimensions, so no smaller or bigger products are to be released. He admitted however that more crossovers could be launched soon.

“MINI will continue to push the limits with our concept studies, which are open for discussion and criticism, allowing us to incorporate some or all of the study elements into a future production vehicle,”
said McDowell. “While the size of such concepts will no doubt vary, the MINI product family will remain true to its values of ensuring a ‘premium small car’ experience; and to do so in the U.S., we are likely to stay within the size range that is currently established.”

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
