Robert Llewellyn Tries Out Car Sharing in Berlin

In the latest episode uploaded to his channel, Robert Llewellyn travels to Berlin, in Germany, to get first-hand experience with car sharing programs and to see whether or not they work. He is surprised that if you are a member of DriveNow (BMW’s own car sharing service), all you need is a magnetic id which you place next to a sensor on any car in the program, automatically unlocking the car and allowing you to start your journey without delay.
Also, the app used to find available cars also seems to work very well and is very intuitive, while thanks to the companies already strong presence in Berlin, their first car is only 160 meters away from their location. After taking a drive in a Mini Clubman from the DriveNow program, Robert then proceed to talk to a Car2Go representative which, as far as we could tell, makes perfect sense and it seems that car sharing schemes really genuinely work.

If you have such a scheme running in your city, from which you could ‘rent’ an EV, we would suggest that you leave your own car at home, for one day, at least, and experience emissions-free motoring without having to be tied down with buying the car, or charging it or any of the other points which seem to put car buyers off EVs.
