Road America Replaces Milwaukee Mile in Nationwide Series

Following last week's announcement that Milwaukee Mile will be giving up hosting 2010 Nationwide and Camping World Truck series races due to the failure to secure promoter for the 2010 season, NASCAR announced yesterday the track will be replaced by Road America in Wisconsin.

The 4.048-mile, 14-turn road track will be hosting the NASCAR event on June 19, one day before the June 20 Sprint Cup road-course race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.

"It's a really great racetrack," Paul Menard, Wisconsin-born NASCAR driver said about the new course. "It's in a very picturesque setting in the Wisconsin countryside. It has every kind of corner you can imagine. When I was a kid, my dad would take me to Road America. The fans love it there."

"By the second practice, I'm sure everyone will be up to speed because the drivers are so good in the Nationwide Series. Braking will be the hardest aspect. Strategy will play a big part in this race. I'm really excited about running there."

Given the short time and long distance between Wisconsin and California, teams will be given an extra day of practice on June 17. The Truck Series race is scheduled for June 18 and the Nationwide Series for the next day.

It is unclear for now whether the 2011 season will also have a race in Wisconsin. Milwaukee Mile intends to get back to NASCAR in 2011. Until then, the track will remain open for other related activities, like car clubs and even driving schools.

Road America will be the third road course on the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. The series also will race at Watkins Glen International and at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
