Milwaukee Mile Withdraws from 2010 NASCAR Series

A sad news for Milwaukee NASCAR fans came yesterday from the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board, owner of the Milwaukee Mile track: having failed to secure a promoter for the 2010 season, the Board announced the track will no longer host 2010 Nationwide and Camping World Truck series races.

"For the past seven years, the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board has been committed to maintaining and underwriting national racing at the historic Milwaukee Mile race track," the board said in a statement quoted by NASCAR. "Since 2003, the Fair Park has subsidized race operations from $1 million to $3 million each year.

"However, even the profitable NASCAR race weekend does not generate sufficient revenue to cover the costs of the other races as well as promoter operating expenses. It saddens us to say there will not be a national race held at the Milwaukee Mile for the 2010 season."

Milwaukee Mile joins Memphis Motorsports Park in announcing its retirement from the 2010 season. The track will remain open for other related activities, like car clubs and even driving schools, in the hope that the money gained this way may help it get back to NASCAR in 2011.

The races which were supposed to be held here, the Truck Series race scheduled for June 18 and the Nationwide Series race scheduled the next day, will be moved by NASCAR to yet unnamed locations.

"NASCAR was aware of this possibility and we have been working on alternate opportunities on the 2010 schedule for both series and will announce those soon," the sanctioning body said.
