The fact that people rely on technology so much sometimes instead of doing what they have to do is old news. However, this recent footage recorded by the surveillance cameras at a gas station in Marietta, GA shows how bad things can go when people don't heed common sense safety recommendations.
We thought that shutting off the engine of a vehicle while refueling was common sense, but it looks like it's not the case for everyone. A 53-year-old rider stopped to fuel his bike at a gas station, but left his motorcycle running, according to local reports.

Suddenly, what appears to be a backfire from his bike's right-hand exhaust ignites fuel spilled on the ground from what appears to be an overflowing tank. The bike is quickly engulfed in flames and the rider can be seen tumbling to the ground, partially soaking his clothes in burning fuel.

Most people would run away from such a fire, but not Billy Houston

One of the persons who witnessed the entire scene unfold is the rider's guardian angel, if you wish. Billy Houston ran towards the blaze and pulled the rider out of the fire, then used his sweater to extinguish the flames.

The rider suffered severe burns and was taken to a hospital, where the doctors assessed his condition as non-life-threatening. Houston was also treated to hand and forearm burns.

Mr. Houston motorcycle also told the investigators that the bike's audio system was cranked very loud. He noticed fuel being spilled from the bike's tank and tried to warn the rider, but the loud music prevented him from being heard.

Whether the backfire or fuel coming in contact with hot engine parts were the cause of the bike is irrelevant now. However, none of this would have taken place if the guy was smart enough to shut off his bike during refueling.
