Renault Twingo Sapphic Ad Was Banned in Italy

Renault launched an aggressive add campaign to promote its Twingo lineup. Probably the raciest advert of a series of three features a seductive bedroom scene between two women and hardly a mention of the car. The 30-second video was recently banned from being displayed on Italian television.

The add shows two women, who we will refer to as the blond and the brunette, sneaking off together from the party they are at for a bit of fun in the sheets. Once inside the bedroom, the brunette removes her pink top to unveil a black lacy bra. While she’s lying on the bed, the blond teasingly holds up a black silk stocking which she uses as a blindfold. She then jumps on top of the brunette, notices the pink top, grab it and run out of the bedroom leaving the pure girl blindfolded and shamed.

“Is it controversial or cutting edge? One thing for certain though at no point during the advert is any technical aspect of the new Renault Twingo ever mentioned,” says Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera. We beg to differ, as there are a lot of women who would buy a car just to match it with their shirt.

“We wanted to create an advert that was original, enjoyable and at the same time not vulgar and I believe we have achieved that. What is clever is that you think the advert is going one way but in the end it goes another - its great don't you think?” Daniele Tranchini, a spokesman for the company who made the add says.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
