Launched only about a month ago, the rebadged Dacia Duster is selling very well as a Renault in India. Already, ten thousand order have been placed, and the factory that makes it has had to boost production. Who knows, maybe exports to the UK will also prove successful when they start at the end of the year.
Demand for the Duster SUV must have caught Renault India officials by surprise, because it came in a time of economic uncertainty and high gas prices.
Whatever the case, Renault India has had to boost production this year, as orders for the SUV hit 10,000 units. Its main rivals, the Mahindra Scorpio and XUV500 are available pretty much instantly.
The Renault Duster was first shown at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo and is available with a 1.6-liter petrol engine or a 1.5-liter diesel in two states of tune.
