Renault Asks for Tire Changes for Improved F1 Show

Following the boring season opening Bahrain Grand Prix, all eyes will be set on the upcoming Australian Grand Prix, to see if the worries expressed by several drivers and teams out there will match the reality on track. Basically, after the Bahrain race, the world of Formula One was divided into two parts: the ones that asked for immediate rule changes in order to improve the show and the ones that asked for patience.

Renault’s boss Eric Boullier is clearly a patient man, as he insisted that the F1 rules in 2010 should be given a chance for a few more races. He reckoned that one of the reason why the first race of the season lacked the show was the characteristics of the Sakhir track, and added that there is no point in addressing pit stop changes this season.

On the other hand, he did say that a change that could further help the series in terms of both show and competitiveness would be asking Bridgestone – who will leave the series at the end of this season, by the way – to provide the teams with more tire compounds for each grand prix.

I am not sure that would be a big help for the spectacle. I believe there are a couple of ideas of having more difference between tire compounds, which would make the show better. Or, if you look at other categories, they have more tire degradation which makes the show tougher,” said Boullier, reckoning that the Bridgestone tires wear off harder than initially projected.

“I think you need to give it a little bit of time. It is not easy to make a perfect show, and track layout can help or can hinder,” added Boullier, according to Autosport.
