Coulthard Blames Mosley for F1 Chaos, Boredom

Although he hasn't spoke too openly against former FIA president Max Mosley in recent years, former grand prix driver and current BBC commentator David Coulthard seems to have had enough with the Brit's “legacy” in Formula One. Writing in his regular column in the Telegraph, the Scot did not hold back from pointing the finger at Mosley for all the wrong things that currently happen in F1.

Following the immense criticism from the majority of the media – as well as some drivers and teams – because of the boring Bahrain GP, Coulthard opinionated that not only the refueling ban has to “be held responsable” for that, but also the “revs limited to 18,000rpm, standardised gearboxes and engines and sole tire supplier,” all of which have been introduced in the sport by Mosley.

I hope Max Mosley, watching from his ivory tower after relinquishing his post as president last autumn, enjoyed the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday,” wrote Coulthard.

Additionally, he piggybacked on his early declarations about the newly entered teams in the sport – having criticized them for failing to keep the pace with the already established teams during testing – insisting that the sole fact that Lotus managed to finish the race with both cars should not be a reason for joy inside the series.

And before people write in to say how great it was that both Lotus drivers finished the race; yes it was but should we not expect an F1 car to be able to complete a race? Surely that is a minimum expectation?” said Coulthard, who also pointed out that “wheels should not be falling off cars during practice” - an obvious reference to what happened to Virgin during the Bahrain GP practice sessions.

As for HRT F1, the team barely made it to the Bahrain GP grid – after several discussions within the organizers – with Karun Chandhok making his first appearance in the car in the qualifying session. He eventually went out of the race in the opening lap, while Bruno Senna managed to drive the car for 17 laps.
