Chevrolet is ending 2023 on a high – or big – note, depending on your POV. More precisely, the General Motors subsidiary has recently updated its Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs with "improvements on design, engineering, and technology."
Since the company has the $20,400 Trax, $23,100 Trailblazer, $26,600 Equinox (and upcoming Equinox EV), $35,400 Blazer (and Blazer EV), plus the all-new Traverse squeaky fresh, it was obviously only a matter of time before the $54,200 Tahoe and $57,200 Suburban also joined the party.
So, with the Toyota rival breathing down GM's neck to recapture the sales lead in America, it is no wonder that Chevrolet moved quickly to announce the refreshed 2025 Tahoe and 2025 Suburban full-size SUVs even before we entered into 2024.
They come with fresh interior and exterior designs, now in line with the Silverado and Silverado HD pickup truck siblings, pack new signature lighting treatments, and also feature a large "best-in-class" 17.7-inch infotainment screen – the cockpit is clearly inspired by the Cadillac Escalade cousin which shares with them the same GMT T1XX architecture.
The refinements also touched the trailering technology and ride-and-handling characteristics, brought forth a new Connected Cameras array working with OnStar, and new assistance and security features – like the AutoSense Power Liftgate or the parent company's acclaimed SuperCruise system. Built exclusively at GM's Arlington Assembly Team in Texas, the Tahoe and Suburban will reach dealerships sometime next year with the more powerful (plus 10%) second-gen Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel first launched on the Silverado 1500.
It now packs 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of peak torque, but customers can still order the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engines with the same trims - LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Now, naturally, people will start asking what's next for the Tahoe and Suburban since they can't receive an all-new generation too soon. Well, if you ask the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, maybe it's time to prepare for the first-ever EV derivatives.
For example, this virtual artist, better known as SRK Designs on social media, has decided to trust his CGI instinct and come up with a dreamy Suburban EV. That's not exactly preposterous. After all, Chevrolet is one of the American automakers that promised a wide range of EVs to support the transition to sustainable transportation models.
And they already have the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV on sale – both awaiting an all-new generation based on Ultium technology, plus the upcoming Equinox EV and Blazer EV, as well as the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV that can be had in WT versions, for now. Logic dictates that making the Tahoe and Suburban EVs is directly linked to the success of the Silverado EV. So, are we prepared for a fully electric full-size SUV from Chevy or not?
