Launched in 1997, the Toyota Prius reached its third generation, with the last two of them conserving the unmistakable classic liftback design that made it popular.
Rumors tell that a redesigned Prius is expected to land in the beginning of 2015. According to a report, the new one will feature a lower hoodline and beltline while the one-box design might be left behind. The dimensions will be pretty much the same with the current one, only that it will have shorter overhangs.
Also, the automaker is reportedly testing with multiple battery packs, a different one for different usage cycles and due to the Japanese automaker’s alliance with Tesla, they can develop advanced lithium-ion cells instead of nickel-meta hybrid ones. Another experimental option is considered to be the addition of a supercapacitor energy storage system to test start-stop applications in the future.
