Red Bull Also Slams Dangerous New Teams

While McLaren Mercedes' managing director Jonathan Neale is supporting the new teams in Formula One but is still warning the FIA to keep a close watch on their development through the 2010 season, some other team principals feel differently about this particular topic. Ferrari's stand on it is all too known, so we're not going to focus on them for the time being.

Instead, it seems Red Bull Racing are also backing the Italian manufacturer in their criticism, although not as violent. Talking about the new teams and their single-seaters' poor on track performances, showed during recent testing, Red Bull's Christian Horner raised some serious safety concerns ahead of the season opening Bahrain GP.

We will just try to stay out of their way. The danger is the time difference is going to be so big – up to five seconds a lap – and the difference in the closing speeds is massive. The potential for them to cause an incident is reasonably high,” said Horner, according to The Times.

Earlier this month, Australian driver Mark Webber also slammed the new teams for their inability to develop a reasonably performing F1 car for 2010, as lap times during recent testing have shown a 4 to 5 second gap between the championship frontrunners and the new outfits. Additionally, Hispania Racing F1 Team will show up in Bahrain without a single mile of testing prior to their F1 debut.

Three of the drivers that used to drive for 2010's already established teams are now competing for newly entrants – Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen for Lotus F1, while Timo Glock runs for Virgin Racing. Hearing about the recent negative comments about the new teams, Glock insisted that his business is to drive his VR-01 as fast as he can and not think of the polemics too much.

I don't care. I think that for the fans and for Formula One, it is a good thing if new teams can come in,” said Glock, according to the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper.
