Vettel Will Not Hire New Manager for 2010

While constantly praised by Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone for his maturity, racing talent and great image within the fans worldwide – and the compliments could continue – Sebastian Vettel is still conducting his “F1 business” on his own. Meaning he has no manager to look out for him.

Ever since he was signed by BMW a few years back, the 22-year old German did not benefit from the advice of a more experienced person to handle his contractual situations or renegotiate his salary. He did it all by himself, including the switch from the powerful German manufacturer BMW to the underrated Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2008.

As he had a considerable amount of success in his short Formula One career so far, the German admitted he has no plans of hiring a manager in the near future. Especially since he already signed a 2-year extension to his Red Bull deal last year, giving the Austrian team the first option for signing him for a 3rd year.

People say 'oh, you need a manager to get you into adverts or to make you more money'. But I'm fine. I want to make my own decisions,” Vettel was quoted as saying in an interview with the Guardian newspaper.

The problem with formula one and football is that so much money is involved. Formula one is big business and, unfortunately, everyone is too caught up in his own interests and what ends up in his own pocket. For some people it is just business. And that's a big problem. You can't always say what you'd like to say. But the important thing for me is the racing – and to stay the same person I've always been,” added the German driver.

He insisted that he holds no regrets over the moves he did during the past few years and admitted that having to negotiate his own terms is not such a bad thing after all.

Sometimes it's funny because, in a negotiation, you can sit at a table with some very experienced people in their sixties. But you soon forget about your age and you do your best,” added Vettel.
