TVR is coming back to consciousness, and its first model of the new era will be showcased at this year’s London Motor Show.
The company has chosen the 2016 London Motor Show for the public reveal of its 2017 model, as the event is enjoying its revival this year. The exhibit will not be an entire vehicle, but a full-size silhouette of TVR’s upcoming model.
As Motor Authority notes, TVR’s latest creation is a Grand Touring Coupe fitted with a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The powerplant is sourced from Ford’s Mustang GT, but has been enhanced by the specialists at Cosworth. Power and torque figures have not been published yet, but we expect a significant power bump from the standard unit.
In previous statements, TVR’s officials have confirmed they have already collected enough orders to stay busy until the end of 2018. By the year 2022, TVR hopes to build 2,000 cars a year at their new factory in Wales.
TVR’s latest creation is the first production car in the world to feature Gordon Murray’s iStream construction. The latter is a carbon fiber tub developed by the designer of the McLaren F1.
Previous reports announced that TVR would build a launch edition of their coupe with a full carbon shell, while the following models would have carbon fiber as an option. Unlike other cars made from carbon fiber, using Gordon Murray’s iStream solution allows TVR to use a fully mechanized production process, speeding fabrication and assembly.
Naturally, being built from carbon fiber will ensure an excellent power-to-weight ratio for the automaker's coupe. The version which will not use the material for the entire build will probably resort to aluminum alloys and other lightweight solutions.
TVR has yet to detail its first model, as the company is in the final stages of development. In spite of not seeing the production version of the car, over 350 people have placed deposits for a new TVR. It may not appear significant when compared to Tesla’s Model 3 record orders, but we are talking about a company that has come back from bankruptcy.
