The 1968 model year brought good news to the GTO lineup from a production perspective. The myriad of tweaks introduced by Pontiac paid off, with the company eventually producing 87,684 units.
The increase was significant. The 1967 output included only 81K GTOs, and the boost was even more obvious in the case of the convertible.

The removable top was more popular than ever, with the production getting very close to the 10K-unit threshold. A total of 9,980 GTO convertibles rolled off the assembly lines this model year.

One of them landed on eBay earlier this week, courtesy of seller affordableclassicssd. It's a real GTO, with VIN code 24267, though the vehicle is now a mix of old, new, and aftermarket goodies that fuel its chances of returning to the road.

While I won't spend too much describing its condition because everybody can check out the photos in the gallery, I can't help but highlight the accident damage. The seller didn't share specifics on what looks to be the outcome of a minor collision, so you should inspect it and ask more questions.

Otherwise, the engine under the hood is no longer the original unit. The convertible now sports a 1966 Pontiac 389 V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission. The engine still works, as the owners poured gas directly into the carburetor, and it started.

The GTO left the factory with a Turquoise finish but lost it somewhere along the way. It now comes with a His and Her shifter, factory and aftermarket gauges, the original steering wheel, power steering, and air conditioning. It has manual windows.

The interior is "fairly complete," and I'm impressed with how well it looks. It still requires several urgent repairs, but you wouldn't expect the interior of a car to look so good considering its challenging exterior appearance. However, the GTO needs major work in every department, so it's not a project aimed at beginners unless the final goal is a daily driver.

The owner believes $13K is a fair price for this GTO, but most buyers seem to disagree. The car is yet to spark much interest, likely due to the selling price. It requires a complete restoration, and considering the project would likely include work in every key area, including the engine, the body, and the interior, restoring the convertible will be expensive. A $10K selling price will probably attract more buyers, but the seller also enabled the Make Offer button to discuss other deals.

If you want to see this GTO in person, you must drive your trailer to El Cajon, California. eBay's statistics indicate that over 50 people are already watching this GTO, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the car leaving for a new home in the coming days.
