Built from 1979 from 1993, the third-generation Mustang was retired in style, with Ford offering the SVT Cobra and the Cobra R in the musclecar’s last production year.
Sharing the SVT’s 302 (5.0-liter) V8 engine, the track-focused Cobra R featured several updates but lacked the air conditioning and the stereo system for weight-saving purposes. Built in only 107 unit, the Cobra R became the most exclusive Fox body Mustang ever created.
These things are a rare sight even on eBay nowadays, but, to our surprise, one example with very low mileage on the odometer surfaced on the popular auction website. The red-painted Cobra R has only 195 miles on its engine and was mostly stored in a heated garage since it was purchased in 1993.
According to its owner, the Stang is “all original down to the paper license plate and battery” and it’s #76 out of 107 made. The car doesn’t have a “Buy it now” price and bidding is up to almost $58,600. The reserve hasn’t been met yet, but we do hope this rare Mustangs gets a new home and maybe some track fun.
