While I understand that with limited availability, ZL1 and even SS 1LE spec Camaros can set you back over MSRP at auction, the fact that someone spent $202,000 for this Garage 56 special edition model kind of boggles the mind.
I think that we’re coming around on the Camaro, as an industry and as muscle car fans in general. After that whole Bumblebee craze from the late 2000s and early 2010s, GM's beloved product took a backseat to the likes of the S550 Ford Mustang and the third-generation Dodge Challenger. This happened circa 2014-15, when the S550 Mustang went into production and Dodge launched the updated Challenger, featuring the critically acclaimed Hellcat specification.

Still, none of this changes the fact that once Chevy introduced the sixth-gen Camaro in ZL1 spec, it instantly became one of the best muscle cars ever made thanks to its aero package and its supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8. This is a car you can take to the drag strip, the race track, and to dinner and a movie. A jack of all trades, if you will.

Fast-forward to last summer and Chevy comes out with the so-called 2024 Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, following a collaboration between the carmaker, NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Goodyear and IMSA, with Chevy’s Performance Design Studio getting tasked with distilling the essence of the race car into a limited-production road car.

The result is quite interesting, as all Garage 56 Edition cars come with Riptide Blue Metallic exteriors, featuring a white accent stripe outlined in gold, as well as a black American flag decal to go with the motorsport-inspired badging and graphics. Other visual highlights include the 1LE front fascia, LED headlights, satin black mirror caps, a three-piece NASCAR Cup car-style rear spoiler, and a set of Dark Graphite 20” split 10-spoke wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires.

Step inside and you’ll come across the heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable Jet Black Recaro front seats, Garage 56-branded floor mats, carbon fiber dashboard trim, automatic climate control, cruise control, a Bose sound system, a sueded microfiber-wrapped flat bottom steering wheel with a Garage 56 emblem, and plenty more.

The car you’re looking at here is one of just 56 units built in this specification, and I suppose that’s worth certain considerations – like that $89,185 MSRP. But selling for $202,000? It makes me cringe.

Sure, it’s got just 10 miles on the clock, and that supercharged LT4 V8 is still worth 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, but that doesn’t make this thing any less overpriced than it is. Maybe if this was a 1 of 1 car, then maybe I could see the point of paying 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo money for it, but otherwise? Yikes.

What do you guys think, is this worth $200k? Or is it like with that famous line from ‘The Wire’ by Poot who said: “The world going one way, people another.”
