The next-generation Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be launched under the same moniker, despite earlier reports claiming General Motors will use the Z07 name instead.
At least that’s what GM Authority states, quoting company sources and stressing that General Motors has yet to file a trademark for the Z07 name, which they should have done by now.
There’s no word on when the C7-based Corvette Z06 will be launched, but rumor has it Chevy will introduce it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January. The sportscar is expected to with a 6.2-liter V8 engine tweaked to deliver at least 600 HP via a Tremec TR-6070 seven-speed manual transmission.
A prototype of the new Corvette Z06 was spotted testing back in September, with the spyshots revealing a set of new wheels, a pronounced hood bulge and some extra vents. The vehicle could also feature a carbon-fiber front splitter and new blacked-out grille, as a rendering made by our friends over at Top Speed suggested a couple of months back.
