There used to be a time when football players lived on busses and didn't care about hair products, Pepsi commercials and supermodel girlfriends. Unfortunately, those times are long gone and so we turn our attention to the British Premiership footballers for insight into the lives of the best payed athletes in the country.
Premier League is the oldest championship in the world and one of the most reputable. Millions of people will soon watch teams like Manchester United or Chelsea go up against each other. But once they're done shaking hands and exchanging shirts, what sort of cars will Rooney, Petr Cech or van Persie be driving home?

Oracle Finance has just revealed new research which suggests the Range Rover remains the most popular car with Premier League players. Data compiled from the last five years, suggests 28 players have financed Range Rovers through Oracle. Not surprisingly though, the Bentley Continental GT came in a close second with 26 registrations.

The Top 10 list is in fact dominated by SUVs, with the Range Rover Sport coming in third, followed by the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne. This data suggests footballers prefer comfort and luxury over outright speed.

Imposing and powerful, Range Rovers have earned the nickname "Chelsea Tractor". Famous drivers include Darren Bent from Aston Villa, Jon Obi Mikel and John Terry from Chelsea and Liverpool's Luis Suarez. Manchester players like Ryan Giggs, Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney have all owned the Sport version of the SUV.

But there are some cases in which exotic supercars are purchased for the prestige. The Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari 458 have been the most obvious choice here.

The Maranello supercar's looks and sonorous V8 engine has attracted buyers like Mesut Ozil, Frank Lampard and Nani. But the all-wheel drive and Raging Bull badge have made the Lamborghini Gallardo even more popular. Premiership drivers include Ashley Cole from Chelsea and Gabriel Agbonlahor from Aston Villa.

“We can’t reveal which footballers use our services because of client confidentiality, but we work with some of the biggest names in the footballing world and have helped hundreds of players, managers and agents fund their dream cars over the years,"
said Oracle Finance managing director Peter Brook.
