Rambo Lambo Revived by the Touareg

Oh, how they all bow to the mighty market share... In what is perhaps the most disturbing news we've heard in the past few months, supercar manufacturer Lamborghini is said to be planning a revival of the Rambo Lambo of the 1980s, with an SUV built on a Touareg platform.

Of course, everybody jumped to compare the success of luxury carmaker Porsche had with the Cayenne with a similar feat which could be achieved by Lamborghini (as you know, the Touareg and Cayenne share the same platform). Although in Porsche's case the success is obvious, we really doubt that a Lambo SUV would have the same degree of appeal on a larger scale.

As said, Lamborghini taunted the SUV market with the LM002 manufactured in between 1986 and 1993. It enjoyed some success with Arab sheiks and even with several armies in the region ordering the military version of the LM002.

Currently, as you already know, just about the entire automotive market is screaming for SUVs, crossovers and other derivatives of the off-road vehicles. The exact same market which proved friendly with the LM002 back in the early 1990s is the one the carmaker is said to be targeting with the new version.

Little is currently known about what the future Lambo SUV will pack under its hood. For comparison, the LM002 was fitted, after several trial and error attempts, with a 5.2l V12. As for the looks of the contraption, the Porsche or Volkswagen engineers are not quite speaking the same language with the ones from Lamborghini. Rounded edges it'll have not, but we hope, should the Lambo SUV be unavoidable, the Hummer look will be dropped as well.
