Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for the Yellow Rose of Texas. And no, I’m not referring to the hit song recorded by Mitch Miller and the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, but a full-size pickup truck from Ram. A bright yellow truck.
The 2016 Ram 1500 is now available in Yellow Rose of Texas form. The manufacturer may fool you into thinking that this is a special edition, but then again, Public Enemy taught me not to believe the hype. This is nothing but a workhorse with some yellow exterior paint and a badge affixed to the tailgate.

The name of the paint is Stinger Yellow and the badge reads Lone Star, a nod to the star on the 1836 flag of Texas. The younger audience should be reminded that the lone star stands for Texas as a former independent republic and its struggle for independence from Mexico. Anything else? Why there is.

As it was expected, the Yellow Rose of Texas is based on the Ram Lone Star model, which is exclusive to the Texas retail market. Because Texas is the kind of state where the full-size pickup truck is king of the hill, Ram does things like this to appeal to the good men and women of the Lone Star State.

“Texas is truck country - Ram Truck country - and we’re committed to building products that resonate with our customers,” declared Mike Manley, the head honcho of the Ram brand. “The importance of the Texas truck market cannot be overstated. That’s why the Ram Truck brand has worked year after year to deliver hard-working trucks that serve the communities across the Lone Star state.”

Slated to go on sale next month, the 2016 Ram 1500 Yellow Rose of Texas will be available solely as a crew cab. The choice between 4x2 and 4x4 will be made by the customer.
