Qatar to Host Williams' Promotional Test This Week

Qatar is currently a big part of the MotoGP schedule, as it currently holds the championship's only night race in its annual schedule. However, the Losail International Circuit may very well cope with the requirements of Formula One racing, as it has recently been chosen by Frank Williams to provide the base for the team's new promotional film for 2010.

According to a report from AutoMiddleEast.com, Williams F1 Team will use the Losail circuit “from December 7 to 10 for its annual film shoot for use in promotional material created by the team’s sponsors.”

The announcement comes to strengthen the close relationship Williams F1 Team has developed with Qatar in recent months. Approximately a month ago, the British official announced the team will proceed to the launch of a new facility near Doha, aimed at “developing F1 technology for commercial use” (mainly the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, developed by Williams throughout the 2009 season).

Also, the Williams F1 Team's outing on the Losail circuit later this week will see Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello getting behind the wheel of the FW31 for the first time (together) since the signing of their 2010 commitments.

Bringing Formula One - the pinnacle of motor racing - to Qatar is another significant milestone and one we welcome given Williams special relationship with our country,” said Nasser Khalifa Al-Attiyah, the president of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF).

Following our recent investment in the Qatar Science & Technology Park, it was a logical decision to take the team to Losail and it will be a genuine privilege to be the first Formula One team to run at the track,” added Williams.

Apart from its commitment to the MotoGP series, the Losail International Circuit also hosted the Qatar round of the GP2 Asia Series in 2009.
