Some 1,000 protesters made their way to the Paris Motor Show, yesterday, to voice their concerns regarding the future of PSA Peugeot-Citroen. They were planning on entering the venue and raising awareness regarding the further implementation of austerity measures within the group.
However, the protesters were ‘calmed’, as police used tear gas to keep the situation under control. This is one of many demonstrations taking place around France, as the country approaches a rate of over 10% in unemployment. The group consisted not only of PSA employees, but also others who have been fired from their car manufacturing-related jobs.
They also want to stop an European Union-imposed austerity plan, which the EU claims will slow continental debt crisis. The protesters are banking on new socialist president, Francois Hollande, who was elected specifically because he pledged to sort out the economic issues, without further implementation of productivity-killing austerity measures.
