Since GM has acquired a 7% stake in PSA Peugeot Citroen, it was only natural that the French giant would sever its ties with BMW, ties which had been set up in October, in view of jointly developing hybrid powertrains, despite announcing in March that the GM deal would not affect their partnerships with any other automakers.
BMW will continue the work on their own, while PSA will undoubtedly benefit from GM’s surprisingly extensive knowledge of ‘green’ propulsion solutions. BMW has also ‘hooked up’ with another manufacturer with advanced knowledge of hybrid and all-electric powertrains, Toyota, with which they will most likely continue development.
The Bavarian manufacturer has yet to announce any future plans, as Frank Wienstroth, a spokesman for the company said: "No decisions have been currently made on how the joint venture will be shaped in the future."
