While GM and Peugeot had big plans, to make everything from superminis and large sedans, to crossovers and SUVs, it seems that they have moved too quickly in making all those future plans, as talks have currently halted, due to the French carmakers deteriorating financial state, which is being kept in check with a government bailout.
The two giants announced their official partnership in February, as PSA was exploring the option of joining forces with Opel, a GM sub-brand, yet gave up on the idea when they received a government guarantee for its lending arm, when they announced further deterioration of their financial state.
Now, the agreement between GM and PSA is on hold, and it remains in its earliest of stages, and talks are unlikely to pick up before 2014, when the European market starts to gain momentum again. They will keep burning through €160-million per month, until then.
