With a history of over fifty years in the high-end yachting industry, Dutch shipyard Van der Valk is still pursuing luxury and innovation, trying to outdo itself with each new project it reveals. The yard has announced it has begun construction on a new custom superyacht that will be its largest to date in terms of both length and volume.
Dubbed Project EVO, the new yacht will measure 131 feet (40 meters) in length and will be built on a proven platform for a repeat customer who has previously owned "a number of high-performance yachts" and decided it was time to commission a bespoke vessel for their family.

Responsible for the yacht's naval architecture are Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects, and the yacht's exterior styling was inspired by an "exceptionally attractive design" originally completed by SFG Yacht Design and Fancy by Dada, with Italy-based Cristiano Gatto Design extending the length, adding different angles to the profile, and envisioning the interiors.

According to the shipyard, construction of the all-aluminum superyacht is now underway at its facility in Waalwijk, and the new cruiser is due to be launched in 2026. It will feature a round-bilged, fast displacement hull, and its two MTU engines are expected to propel it to an estimated top speed of 24 knots. At a cruising speed of 19 knots, it will offer a range of 2,200 nautical miles (4,074 km). What's more, the yacht will be built to ABS class and will be fully compliant with the latest IMO Tier III emissions regulations, so owners will be able to cruise in protected waters.

"It is clear that Van der Valk is one of the few yards with the capacity and flexibility to build fully custom superyachts in this size range," commented head of sales Yoeri Bijker. "This 40-metre beauty is based upon an existing engineered platform that is proven in terms of naval architecture. Project EVO is a fine example of how clients can come to Van der Valk with their own exterior designers without having to reinvent the wheel with a new hull, safe in the knowledge that their yacht will excel in terms of performance, speed, and stability."

With an interior volume of 370 GT, the Project EVO superyacht will offer first-class accommodations for up to ten guests. The bespoke layout will include an owner's master suite on the main deck and four guest staterooms on the deck below. There will also be accommodations for six crew members on the lower deck, while the captain's cabin will be located on the bridge deck.

No specific details have been unveiled regarding the exterior and interior configurations and styling, but the custom yacht will surely boast amenities that will facilitate full enjoyment of the ocean, such as plenty of lounging areas, an infinity pool, al-fresco dining, and a generous beach club with fold-down terraces, with Gatto pointing out that the "40-meter project will truly deserve to be called a mini-megayacht."
