While some of those lucky enough to own a yacht use their watercraft mainly for leisure and entertainment at sea, others want to do more while cruising and fully enjoy the yachting experience. For them, La Spezia-based shipyard Antonini Navi has developed a new Sport Utility Yacht that blends sportiness with elegance and living comfort and proves yachts are for more than just lounging and partying.
The groundbreaking new design is called SUY 135 and is the yard's response to the growing demand for a new class of vessels capable of navigating deep waters while providing comfort and luxury.

It measures 44 meters (144 feet) in length with a beam of 9.8 meters (32 feet) and was conceived by Aldo Manna, Partner and Sales Director for Antonini Navi, along with Studio Arrabito, which is responsible for naval architecture, and Fulvio De Simoni, a world-renowned designer with over 3,000 boats to his name. They have collectively created a sleek and powerful sculpture on the water that marks the start of a new line for the Italian shipyard, one that will also include an SUY 190 and SUY 108 model.

Taking inspiration from the automotive sector, where the SUV has made off-road cars comfortable and road-going saloons sportier, the SUY was developed with exploration in mind and marries a typical superyacht aesthetic with world-cruising capability. Moreover, it was specially designed around carrying all kinds of tenders and toys with a sizable transversal tender garage that can stow a 7-meter (23-foot) RIB and various other toys, from PWCs and hovercrafts to helicopters and submarines. As such, it is dedicated to owners who want to pursue sea adventures but prefer the elegance of conventional yachts over the rugged looks of an explorer.

"Exactly like an SUV in the automotive world, the SUY offers the opportunity to experience the vessel with no limits," says Aldo Manna. "The idea was created to allow the owner and his guests to enjoy their yacht at 360 degrees, being able to have toys, amenities, tenders, and any other means suitable for the many sporting and recreational activities that the sea and its places can offer."

With a steel construction that ensures durability and an internal volume of approximately 480 GT, the SUY 135 yacht is also focused on customization, allowing owners to completely tailor both the internal and external configuration to meet their needs and desires.

The suggested interior layout includes a five-stateroom configuration for up to ten guests. A 56-square-meter (603-square-foot) luxurious owner's master suite is located on the main deck, while four guest cabins with ensuite bathrooms can be found on the lower deck. Separate accommodation for the captain and five crew members is also included on the lower deck. Owners can, of course, opt for other stateroom configurations and add amenities like a gym suite and spa/sauna.

A standout feature of the design is a raised-deck area outside that connects the main and upper decks via a short staircase. It also creates shade and shelter for the expansive 40-square-meter (430-square-foot) veranda with an alfresco dining area beneath it on the main deck. The beach club aft is fitted with a hot tub, and the sun deck up top offers a second Jacuzzi, bar counter, and ample seating space for relaxation and basking in the pleasant warmth of the sun.

As for performance, Antonini Navi's new Sport Utility Yacht will be powered by two 1400 hp MAN main engines and promises a range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,408 km) at an economical 10-knot cruising speed and a top speed of 16 knots. It will also be equipped with zero-speed stabilizers, which will ensure enhanced comfort onboard.

The first hull of the SUY 135 is currently in construction at the Pertusola shipyard in the Gulf of La Spezia in Italy, with Moravia Yachting appointed as the Central Agent for the sale of the new vessel. Delivery is slated for 2026.
