We can now see quite a few 2015 Mustangs that keep the crowd on their toes at drag racing events. Unfortunately, as of the past weekend, we have one less muscle-boosted 2015 Mustang playing the quarter mile game.
The Procharged Mustang GT we are talking about was taking part in a no-prep drag race, when the muscle car crashed hard. We don’t know if or when it will return to the drag strip, but it looks like this pony is in a serious condition.

By definition, no-prep races feature a bare surface, which means traction is far from what a conventional drag strip stint offers. This is the kind of racing that relies more on the driver than it does on the car. Alas, in the case of this supercharged Mustang, it has all led to a disaster.

The Ford experienced a bit of wheelspin as it left the starting point, but the driver brought the car back on track. From this point on, he started applying full power and lost the rear end once again.

The driver seems to have reacted late - for one thing, the car had already exited its lane when the man behind the wheel started countersteering. As a result, the Mustang hit the wall hard. Notice how the point where the Mustang kissed the protection element already had accident marks.

The design of the protection element did its job. The car was thrown into the air, dissipating a part of the car’s energy. Still, the damage was serious, with the platform rushing to take the vehicle away from the track, so that less of its fluids would end up on the asphalt.

We don’t have the exact specs of the crashed Mustang, but a Procharger kit applied to a 2015 Mustang should take the car past the 600 hp border. It’s not like these tech detail can serve as an excuse for the guy in the driver’s seat though.
