Almost two weeks ago, we first saw that Porsche had fitted the 918 Spyder prototype with Martini Racing livery. But why?
Today, Porsche made the livery official, saying the prototype was wearing the Italian brand’s colors because it was a tribute to their successful partnership in the past.
A Porsche 917 in the distinctive Martini livery won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1971. After that, Martini became the official sponsor of the Porsche factory team between 1973 and 1978.
Porsche has also made it their clear goal to take the 918 Spyder round the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes 22 seconds. This would mean a lap time comparable to the Corvette Z06 and the 2013 Nissan GT-R. That might not sound that impressive, but when you have a car with fuel consumption of only around three litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions of about 70 grams/km, it is very impressive.
