If the rear wing of the 911 GT3 is too much for your liking, the Touring Package may be right up your alley. No wing doesn't mean a smaller price, though, because both versions kick off at $182,900 in the US market.
An estimated 700 units of the 2022 to 2023 model year 911 GT3 Touring are called back in this part of the world. The problem is best described as a small technicality regarding federal motor vehicle safety standard 108 for lamps, reflective devices, and so on.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said vehicles feature a Center High Mounted Stop Lamp – CHMSL for short – designed to activate when the rear spoiler is retracted. There's also an auxiliary CHMSL, which is designed to activate when the rear spoiler is deployed.

Said rear spoiler can be deployed by the driver manually at speeds below 90 kilometers per hour (make that 55 miles per hour). The problem is, both CHMSLs activate in tandem when the spoiler is manually deployed.

The simultaneous activation of the rear stop lamps may confuse drivers behind the 911 GT3 Touring. As the headline implies, a software update fixes the aforementioned noncompliance. Dealers will be informed of this recall on July 3. Owners will be notified by Porsche Cars North America on August 24.

Affected vehicles were manufactured in Germany between January 12, 2022 and May 25, 2023, beginning with VIN WP0AC2A98NS269475 and ending with VIN WP0AC2A90PS270882. Strangely enough, Porsche claims the software fix was deployed on May 15 this year, not May 25 as previously mentioned.

Codenamed 992, this generation of the Neunelfer was presented in November 2018 at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles. Based on a modular platform introduced by the 718 series in January 2016, the 911 is wildly expensive from the outset, with the Carrera starting at $114,400 at press time. By comparison, the Stingray and Z06 retail at $64,500 and $105,300.

Turbo models range between $197,200 and $243,200 for the Turbo S Cabriolet, the GT3 RS is $241,300, the Sport Classic stickers at $272,300, and the Dakar is a cool $222,000 at the moment of reporting. Only the GT3 line features naturally-aspirated engines, which is a huge selling point in this day and age. The RS pumps out 518 horsepower and 343 pound-feet (465 Nm) at 6,300 revolutions per minute, whereas the regular GT3s boast 503 horsepower and 347 pound-feet (470 Nm) 200 rpm sooner.

Not long now, the 992 will receive a mid-cycle refresh that goes beyond a visual makeover. Big kahuna Oliver Blume confirmed hybrid assistance during the automaker's annual press conference, and prototypes of the Turbo S have been spied at and around the Nurburgring with yellow stickers reading hybrid.

The hybrid stuff does add weight to the Neunelfer, but then again, the way electric motors produce torque will certainly offset the extra weight. On the other hand, Porsche is a little more radical with the 718's replacement. Rather than going the hybrid route, the entry-level sports car will be completely electric.
