We are living in the era of the automotive niches and yet Porsche has come to revolutionize this... revolution with the help of its new Macan. Slimmer than the Cayenne, the Macan promises to bring more of Porsche’s sporty genes. The Germans go as far as mentioning the term “sportscar” and not just once. This is something we definitely had to put to the test and, in order to do so, we grabbed the keys to a Macan S.
Before we head out onto the road, we have to explain Porsche didn’t start the Macan project from scratch. Instead, they paid a little visit to Ingolstadt, borrowing the Audi Q5’s blueprints. There’s no need to worry about cloning though, about 70 percent of the Macan pieces are either new or reworked. After all, a Cayenne doesn’t feel anything like a VW Touareg, despite the two sharing their platform.

More and more people point fingers at those buying crossovers or SUVs just to drive them in the city. Porsche’s Macan comes to show it is perfectly fir for the urban adventure. From the size of the car to the feeling of protection it offers, everything shows good balance here on urban roads.

Having passed the city test with flying colors, the Macan saw us taking it out on the open road. The definition of a crossover doesn’t seem to be large enough for the Porsche Macan. Even in the mid-range S guise, the vehicle managed to show impressive dynamic characteristics.

Sure, the Macan is no 911, but you’d be surprised to see how sporty this machine can be. The S flavor is more than enough for most situations, but if you want the full go-fast experience, you need a Turbo.

In fact, our only gripe with the Macan was the lack of some added spice at the limit. For instance, this Porsche can corner at ridiculous speeds, but we would’ve liked some extra kick at the back. Nonetheless, these are situations rarely encountered in everyday driving.

Our Macan S tested had no problem keeping us in comfort throughout the drive - perhaps this is the only area where the Macan acts like a Q5, offering sweet serenity. Got a problem with that? We don’t, but we’ll still talk about this in our Porsche Macan S review.
