Audi seems to be determined to make sure everybody is aware that they are the entity handling all of VW Group’s SUVs. Ingolstadt’s latest move in this direction came at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, where they introduced the TT Offroad Concept.
If this looks a bit familiar, it’s because, in typical VW Group fashion, we are dealing with a remastered version of the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept we’ve met at the Detroit Auto Show earlier in the year.

Aside from the TT Offroad looking like a crossover version of the Allroad Shooting Brake, the two share the plug-in hybrid powertrain. Up front, we find a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit delivering 292 hp. However, this is where the conventional stuff ends.

The petrol unit is joined by a 40 kW electric motor up front and an 85 kW electric unit at the back, the latter making sure all-wheel drive is on the table. All in all, the driver gets to control 408 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque.

Audi’s TT Offroad Concept needs 5.2 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph sprint, while offering a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The performance alone is not the trick here. Howevever, the machine can do all that and still comes with an envisioned efficiency of 123 MPGe (1.9 liters per 100 km) and corresponding CO2 emissions of 45 grams per km.

Furthermore, the 12 kWh battery pack at the rear allows the car to come with a 54:46 weight distribution. This offers an all-electric range of 31 miles (50 km/h) and an all-electric top speed of 80 mph (130 km/h). Nonetheless, the overall driving range sits at 546 miles (880 km/h). We have to add that the TT Offroad concept also comes with the Audi Wireless Charging technology, so if you park it over the right hardware, it will charge easily,

Where Audi’s designers really made an effort is inside the TT Offroad Concept. The four-seater cabin is gifted with Audi’s future Virtual Cockpit Technology. For instance, this sees a configurable 12.3-inch display projecting HD 3D graphics. As for the climate control system, this features a cabin ionizer to keep away those spring allergies.

The Germans have also show us a sample of their humor, as the luggage compartment of the Concept holds a 1:8 scale radio-controlled version of the real thing.

"The Audi TT offroad concept provides a glimpse of how we might imagine a new model in the future TT family," said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development.

The clip below shows Audi's debuts in Beijing and you can scroll over to the 14-minute mark for the TT Offroad Concept.
