Looking for a track-focused SUV (?) with a naturally aspirated V8 engine and an eight-speed tip-tronic S gearbox?
There really isn’t any other choice other than the Porsche Cayenne GTS, a re-tuned version of the Cayenne S with lower suspension, sticky tires and a paintjob that makes it look like Kermit the Frog.
The GTS version of Porsche’s top selling vehicle was revealed at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and is now getting ready for its market debut, with Porsche releasing a promo video featuring B-roll footage and some moving music to spice things up.
But how sporty is the Cayenne GTS? Well, its V8 has been tweaked to produce 420 hp, which is sent to the road via all-wheel drive. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 5.7 seconds and that might seem good. But BMW recently revealed their sporty diesel, the X5 M50d, which has less power but still manages to reach the first 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster.
We see a track day battle coming when these sports SUVs reach the market. The track-focused way may not be right for the Cayenne!
