Porsche Boss Confirms Panamera Coupe, Possible 5-Series Rival and Sports Car

When Porsche revealed the Panamera Sport Turismo concept, at this year’s edition of the Paris Motor Show, we all assumed that it would completely replace the current shape Panamera, when it gets replaced by an all-new model, some time next year.

However, according to Porsche boss, Matthias Mueller, the model “has not been approved for production”, but we still say it will, as the Stuttgart automaker official has also confirmed that more variants of the Panamera will be launched in coming years.

The most interesting of these is a two-door coupe version of it, which would hark back to a classic front-engined V8 Porsche - the stunning 928, which, to our eyes, was one of the nicest cars ever designed in Stuttgart. It would keep the front-engined layout, and powertrain from the Panamera, yet it would only have two doors, which would undoubtedly reveal an ample interior, with plenty of room for four.

Mueller also confirmed that another model is being considered - a BMW 5-Series rival, a sedan to sit below the Panamera. The last bit of information given by the Porsche boss concerns the creation of a new sports car, which is to sit above the best of the 911s, yet still under the 918 Spyder. If it does get approved, it will use VW MMB platform, which is also set to underpin the next Lambo Gallardo and Audi R8 replacement.
