With the Porsche 918 Spyder starting to age beautifully, it's no wonder that owners have become more open-minded. As such, we can now see the Zuffenhausen halo car at the drag strip more often and we're here to show you the latest example of that.
The adventure comes from the recent Lamborghini Festival in Houston, where the owner of a gas-electric Porscha decided to race... the world. To be more precise, the 918 Spyder duked it out with machines such as a Nissan GT-R, a Porsche 911 Turbo S from the 997 generation and (drum rolls) a Mercedes-Benz GL.
We're not sure why the driver of the Benz SUV decided to sprint together with the 918 (the two raced on more than one occasion), but this resulted in one of the most unusual drag strip duels we've shown you this year.
Zooming in on the Porsche hypercar, it's difficult not to notice how consistent the machine was, delivering one 10.1-second pass after another.
Speaking of the hypercar's 1,320 feet time, the Porsche 918 Spyder can complete the quarter-mile task even quicker than that - the beast has delivered passes as low as 9.8 seconds. Then again, this also depends on how well the surface is prepped.
This is obviously a speed animal that rarely gets left behind at the drag strip (we're not talking about battles with drag racing-prepped machines), but we've recently shown you an adventure that came to such a conclusion.
We're talking about the time when the 918 Spyder battled it out with the Rimac Concept One. You know, the all-electric hypercar coming from a small Croatian automaker. Given the 1,088 hp output of the Concept One, as well as its two-speed dual-clutch trannies for the rear wheel motors (it has four motors in total), it was only normal for the EV to leave the 918 trailing in its wake.
