You know Porsche, always ready to give a meaner version of your car, one that’s closer to the track than to the road. Since the German carmaker uses this principle, its upcoming flagship supercar, the 918 Spyder, couldn’t be an exception.
Porsche is currently working to develop a Race Track pack for the 918 Spyder, which will be focused on reducing weight. This will draw inspiration from Mercedes’ classic Silver Arrows race cars, which were stripped of their paint to meet the weight requirements.
Thus, customers will be able to choose a “no paint” option and a stripped out interior, with these expected to lower the car’s weight by at least 30 kg (66 lbs). The standard 918 Spyder is expected to tip the scales at around 1,700 kg (3,750 lbs).
The power output of 770 hp, which will come from a mid-mounted 4.6-liter V8 and two electric motors placed at the front of the supercar will sit at 770 hp. regardless of the version one chooses. About a fifth of the 918 Spyder customers are expected to order the Race Track package, which will be quite a pricy option.
