Porsche 911 R Races a Satellite in Latest Ad

Now that Porsche has allowed critics of the GT3's and GT3 RS' PDK-only shape to convince it that a car like the 911 R is required, Zuffenhausen won't let anything stand in the way of the latest Neunelfer derivative generating massive attention.
Let's take the freshest 911 R ad, for instance, the one you can find in the video below. The commercial shows the driving-addicted Porsche racing nothing less than a surveillance satellite. With racing representing the designation of this rear-engined coupe, we can't hold anything against Porsche for attempting such a stunt, albeit in special effects mode.

And while the idea might seem more than a bit odd, we feel it falling perfectly in line with a recent Porsche ad that saw the automaker saluting time travelers out there. However, while that piece was dedicated to future Porsches such as the Mission E's production version, the clip we have here is all about the driving.

From hell and toe shenanigans to take-offs that see the 911 R going sideways like a muscle car, this clip has the power to captivate. Just like the machine itself.

For instance, this is a 911 that has said no to the electronically-controlled rear diff included in the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus feature, which also had brake-aided torque vectoring. Instead, the R features a mechanical locking diff, which offers a more linear response.

The rebel factor is also strong when it comes to the list of options. Traditionally, a Porsche must come with enough optional extras to generate a financial vortex, but there's little you can choose from when configuring one of these pure driving contraptions.

However, when we get options such as a single-mass flywheel, accompanied by a racing-style clutch, we won't be anything less than thrilled. Not that configuring a 911 R would make any sense, since all 991 examples of the car are already sold out.

P.S.: While we're talking Porsche PR & marketing efforts, let's not forget the subtle manner in which Zuffenhausen (probably) roasted both BMW and Mercedes on the first's centennial anniversary.
