This weekend, car buyers in the U.S. will have some thinking to do about their future purchase, as the new Toyota Corolla sedan, one of the most successful cars the Japanese have ever made, was reborn as the 12th generation.
Introduced just before the start of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the new compact sedan comes with an entirely new design when compared to the previous generation, which was born in 2014.

Just like its predecessor, the new Corolla rides on the same 106.3-inch wheelbase, but that doesn’t mean the exterior dimensions remain the same. Nearly every part of the car has been either trimmed or elongated to create new, better-defined proportions.

The stance of the car has been improved with the inclusion of an extra 0.47 inch of metal to the front and 0.87 inches to the rear. The front overhang was shortened by 1.3 inches, while at the rear more than half of inch was added.

The height of the car has also been reduced by 1.4 inches by mounting the engine lower, to allow for better forward visibility.

The front end looks a lot more aggressive than on its predecessor, thanks to the reshaping of the front grille and the narrowing of the headlight housings. Mounting the badge on the hood instead of the grille also adds to this impression.

The rear comes with entirely redesigned stoplights, that are now linked by a black line located beneath the emblem and the license plate location. Because of the redesigned trunk lid and the shortened overall height, the new Corolla’s back looks sportier than ever before.

In the U.S., the Corolla will be offered with a choice of three engines, with power ranging from 139 hp on the 1.8-liter model and can go up to 169 hp on the 2.0-liter.

For the first time ever in the States, the compact sedan will come with a hybrid powertrain. The details on it are to be announced on November 28, before the start of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.
