It seems the new 208 supermini is looking at a career as a four-wheel drive rally car soon. The car you see in the picture above is the 208 Type R5, a rally car that will be shown at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, before going on sale next year.
The R5 will be a successor for the 207 Super 2000. One major difference between the two is that Peugeot Racing has replace the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with a 1.6-liter turbo that will make 280 horsepower.
The shell of the 208 has, in fact, benefited from a weight reduction of approximately 40 kilos compared with its predecessor the 207, without forgetting the minimum weight set at 1200kg. The R5 will be sold with a luminium monoblock 8''x18'' wheels for asphalt and / 7"x15" for gravel.
autoevolution will be attending the Paris Motor Show 2012, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
