Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke has been appointed as the new Director of Design, at Bentley, where he replaced Dirk van Braeckel who moved to a similar position for VW. Donckerwolke, 47, leaves his position as Head of Advanced Design for Volkswagen Group, where he has worked since last year.
According to the Head of Volkswagen Group Design, Walter de Silva: “Luc Donckerwolke brings a wealth of design talent to Bentley [. . .] His extensive experience makes him the ideal person to take forward Bentley’s future design language, at a time when the company has significant plans for new models [. . .] I would like to thank Dirk van Braeckel for the significant contribution he has made to Bentley. He has overseen the evolution of the Bentley brand and the development of the new generation Continental family and the flagship Mulsanne. I look forward to him joining the team at Volkswagen Group design."

We are curious to see where Donckerwolke is going to take Bentley, but if his previous styling efforts (Lamborghini Gallardo and Murcielago and a bunch of SEATs), the transition should be a positive one. Perhaps now they can finally get Bentley’s SUV looking better, while retaining the telltale styling cues that the ‘British’ brand is known for.
