This is an important moment in the fresh life of the 2013 R231 Mercedes SL - the car has received a tuning package from Brabus.
We’ll start this one with the tech side: The SL500 (SL550 in the US) receives the 520 PowerXtra CGI power pack, which convinces the 4.7-liter V8 engine to produce 520 hp and 820 Nm (604 lb-ft) of torque. Thus, the roadster now covers the 0 to 62 mph sprint in a brief 4.4 seconds, while the top speed is electrically-limited to 250, 275 or 300 km/h (155, 172 or 186 mph).
Further down the power line, we can find a limited-slip differential, while the suspension can also be tweaked using sport springs for the SL350 or an electronic lowering module for the Active Body Control models (this brings the car 25 mm closer to the road).
The list of goodies also includes a custom exhaust and Monoblock rims that can be ordered in sizes ranging between 18 and 20 inches. Brabus also dresses the Mercedes SL in a body kit comprised of a new front fascia, side skirts, side vents, a rear fascia, as well as a bootlid spoiler.
Climbing aboard, we find a new leather finish, carbon fiber or wood trimming, illuminated door entry sills, as well as a custom speedometer that can show 320 or 360 km/h (200 or 225 mph).
Our say: the new aluminum construction makes the SL slimmer, so tuners can easily bring it into supercar performance territory.
