French carmaker Peugeot revealed with much fanfare a new generation of 308 compact family hatchback for the European market. It's built on the all-new EMP2 platform and featuring LED headlights and touchscreen infotainment for mid-grade models.
Peugeot's UK marketing team had an important announcement for us when they came back from their short New Year's holiday. Dealers are being stocked with 308s and the compact is now on sale with prices starting from £14,495.

The New 308 is available in four trim levels, Access (from £14,495), Active (from £17,195), Allure (from £18,645) and Feline (from £20,995). There's also going to be a wide variety of engines, including a base 1.2-liter VTi, a 1.6 THP with 125 bhp and a new 1.2-liter e-THP turbo with 110 bhp. Diesel 1.6 and 2.0-liter HDi units with outputs ranging from 92 hp to 150 hp will also be offered.

But if you're sold on the looks of this French 5-door and want to buy one, visit the official website to configure your own.

It's worth noting that VW's base model 1.2 TSI with 85 PS is faster and has more torque. Meanwhile, Ford's Focus is cheaper than the 308, retailing at £13,995 and so is the £12,995 Vauxhall Astra. But in the end, this closely competitive market is a game of inches, and the 308 is a little bit more interesting to look at.
