As a car company, Peugeot has begun to shed some of its unwanted weight. Their smaller models like the 208 and 308 have proven very successful, redeeming the Lion from Sochaux's reputation. However, the rest of the range is still filled with ugly facelifts and we can't say we like any of their sedans in particular.
While the French don't make great production four-doors, they sure as heck know how to do a nice concept model. This is their best one yet. It's called the Exalt and is a four-door coupe that they will reveal officially in front of the crowds gathered at the Beijing Auto Show.

With a sculpted hood forming a brow over compact headlights the car looks moody and sporty. The crease on the side are very complicated and look stamped by machines rather than hand-formed. To top it all off, the finish of the sheetmetal is extraordinary.

Exalt is a fancy name for a four-door coupe which follows up the famous Onyx coupe concept. While that was made from hand-beaten copper, this is made from steel. And like the Onyx, the surface of the metal is left unprotected to gain a certain patina over time.

The French concept is an environmental statement made on so many different levels. For starters, the drivetrain is a Hybrid4 system that incorporates a normal engine and an electric motor providing a combined output of 340 PS (250 kW). We think the mill in question is PSA's tried and tested 1.6 THP, which seems to power everything from the 208 to the 508.

In a press statement which Peugeot let slip onto the internet, it's stated that the Exalt makes use of the "association of crude steel and an efficient textile, Shark Skin, inspired by the structure of shark skin". Again, this is an inviranmental statement from the company, similar to the compressed news papers used for the Onyx's interior.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
