Peugeot 208 HYbrid FE Concept Leaked Ahead of Frankfurt

Some of you might remember that Peugeot teased a lightweight Peugeot 208 HYbrid FE concept car at this year's Geneva Motor Show, back in March.
At the time, the 208 FE was more of an idea than a concept, and the French finally got round to giving the car a real body. These two leaked photos from Peugeot's press office prove they are once again going to show the car, this time at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 208 HYbrid FE is still a supermini, but it revolves around just two headline grabbing ideas: CO2 emission of only 49 grams per kilometer and a 0 to 100 km/h time of only 8 seconds.

The concept uses an updated version of the small VTi three-cylinder engine that now has reduced friction and runs a more efficient combustion cycle. This is then mated to a EGC automatic gearbox and a electric motor and a battery taken from Peugeot’s endurance racing programs.

The 1.0-liter engine has been bored out to 1.2 liters and now uses the Atkinson cycle, has been fitted with racing cylinder head and given a diamond carbon coating to reduce friction. Meanwhile, the electric engine is based on the one Peugeot 908 HYbrid4 Le Mans race car. It offers 40 hp instead of the 140 hp on the race car. It's linked to a 90-cell lithium-ion battery pack, giving an EV range of about 18 kilometers.

They've also shaved 200 kilograms from the weight of the car using CFRP plastics and polycarbonates. The aerodynamics of the car have also been improved, and the 208 has aero wheels, fewer intakes at the front and a completely reworked rear end. They've also done away with conventional door mirrors and handles.
