According to a report from French newspaper Les Echos, Citroen will replace the C3 supermini with an indirect successor. This will be previewed by a new concept at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, will inspired by the 2007 C-Cactus Concept in terms of design and by the 2CV in terms of philosophy.
This is because Peugeot is moving its cars slightly upmarket and Citroen is being forced to take the low road. The third generation C3 is internally known as the E3 and will be ready for production in 2014, at least according to Les Echos. The same reports say the current C3 will still be sold for rthe next three year.
However, we're holding a print issue of AutoPlus magazine which says the new C3 will actually arrive in 2015 and will ride on an enlarged 208 platform. Their report states it will be available with petrol engines ranging from 68 to 120 PS, diesels from 70 to 115 PS and a Hybrid Air system that uses compressed air for a combined 82 PS.
If there's some truth to both these reports, than Citroen actually wants a cheaper car with a retro theme and will continue to make a normal supermini as well. At least that's what our two cents says.
