Proving to be one of the Mercedes buyers' favorite, the German manufacturer's E-Klasse model reached a milestone recently, as the 550,000th unit was sold and took to the road. And for a car that has proven to be so successful, it's only natural that Mercedes would keep the score.
According to the numbers provided by the German automaker, most of the people buying the E-Klasse prefer the sedan version: 376,000 sedans have been sold, forming the backbone of the lineup.
After the sedan, the best-selling version is the coupe, with 110,000 units sold, while the estate, a more pretentious body style, appealed to a total of 64,000 people. Since its launch in March 2009, the 550,000 units sold make for a very nice development.
The model sells best in the major auto markets of the world. In the US, it is market leader in its comparative class, from there coming roughly 20 percent of the E-Klasse sales. Germany, the models' biggest market, is followed in the chart by China. The emerging markets are showing an increased interest in the model as well.
“Until today we have delivered more than 500,000 vehicles of the E-Class family to customers, and the E-Class is and will remain a key pillar of growth for Mercedes-Benz,” said Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes Benz Sales & Marketing vice president.
“We offer our customers an unparalleled range of products in this segment, encompassing a sedan, an estate, a coupe, and a convertible. At the same time, the E-Class is setting benchmarks not only for market success but also with regard to safety, profitability, and efficiency.”
