It’s hard to miss the fact that Opel is undergoing a substantial transformation this year. They’ve refreshed the Astra range, launched a sedan version, introduced a sub-compact crossover and a cute city car to rival the Fiat 500.
All these models are hoped to translate into increased sales, as Opel CEO Thomas Sedran has revealed to German magazine Auto Bild that they plan to overtake Ford and become the second largest automaker in Europe, right behind VW. War of the Germans anyone?
Sedran also tried to put fears that GM is selling Opel to rest by saying "Opel is genuinely involved in the global GM organization."
However, winning the battle with Ford will not mean winning the war, as Europe’s car market is unlikely to be revived before 2014. Even Germany, the largest car market in Europe and traditionally a stable segment, is showing weakness.
