Opel to Sell in Australia

The expansion announced ever since last year by German manufacturer Opel has begun, with the car maker making public today its intention of selling the cars it produces in Australia. The exact date when sales begin has not been announced.

“This launch is an important part of our international expansion strategy. With its growing demand for German design and technology, the Australian car market is an excellent opportunity for Opel. Australian drivers have a strong affinity with Opel vehicles,” said Nick Reilly, Opel CEO.

The decision to sell in Australia does not come with any information regarding the brand under which the model will sell in Oz. As most of you already know, Opel sells its right hand drive versions in the UK under the Vauxhall name. Australia is too a right hand drive country.

As for the first models to reach this third export market, the manufacturer expressed its intention to begin the offensive with the Insignia, Astra and Corsa. More models will be announced at a later date.

Previously, Opel announced it is expanding its operations in Chile and Israel, but the efforts to make the brand a global one do not end here. The next markets targeted by Opel are Argentina, South-Africa, China and several countries in the Middle East.

As the car maker said last year, for the other markets Opel has signals that their products would perform well (especially the Insignia model), because of the strong image the brand has in the two markets.
