Multiple Buyers for Opel's Antwerp Plant?

While General Motors continues its plans to shut down the Opel Antwerp facility, rumors regarding investors that might be interested in the factory emerge on a daily basis. The mysterious Chinese investor that's supposed to bid for Antwerp is still looking into ways to get involved in negotiations, a report by just-auto.com claims citing a spokesman for the Chinese party, but without disclosing its name.

"We had a clear business model and a clear business plan for taking over this factory,"
he was quoted as saying. "We need assembly facilities for sure and we are actively looking for them."

The whole bid remains an enigma for all of us, although unions are still raising questions over GM's intentions to keep the factory open. The Chinese group on the other hand says it is state-owned but also backed by private investors, which can't be anything but good news for local workers who only want to keep Antwerp alive.

"The investors are Chinese and it is a a state-owned holding company with some private investors from the Chinese car industry. But this deal is already over - as the deal is not there any more I don't want to give any information,"
the spokesman added in the statement.

The interesting bit about this news is that the Chinese official also revealed that that group he represents is not the only party that wants to buy Antwerp, thus making us believe that Antwerp might after all be a target for multiple entities looking to expand production in Belgium.

There are "a number of potential buyers, not only us," he explained, while revealing that the Chinese group keeps all things secret because it has signed a non-disclosure agreement with GM.
