The recall phenomenon has left Japan & the U.S. and has landed in Europe to pay a visit to Opel.
The German automotive producer announced that it will recall thousands of new Corsa vehicles on its domestic market and in Europe due to a potential hand brake issue. The information related to the recall campaign is currently limited. The initial announcement was made by the France Press Agency, and stated that the campaign includes 15,500 Corsa in Germany alone.
"The measure affects 15,500 Corsas in Germany" plus an undetermined number in other European countries, a spokesman told AFP.
Opel claims that it is not aware of any accidents related to the problem and that the recall was issued due to results of company safety tests.
"There have been no accidents and the problem was discovered during internal quality controls," the spokesman added.
The German automotive producer’s internal tests showed that some of the cables that are used in the hand brake system might loosen in certain conditions. According to the company, the brake cables require a short servicing operation, in order to ensure they work properly. Opel said that each car needs a servicing session that has a duration of between 30 and 40 minutes.
The owners of the affected vehicles will receive letters informing them about the recall and asking them to bring their cars to Opel dealerships.
We have to wait until Opel issues an official announcement to see the exact number of affected vehicles in all the European markets.
